Devin Jones Turns in Solid Points Run at Kingsport
UARA-STARS Round Four Puts Jones’ VeriStor Ford #35 in the Series’ Top 10
Devin Jones Racing headed to UARA-STARS round four at Kingsport looking to recapture their points momentum with a solid run.
“I have always liked concrete tracks,” said Jones. “They seem to create a level playing field when it comes to qualifying and racing because they are not as heat sensitive as asphalt tracks.”
“The car was fast off the trailer,” said Jones. “On Friday practice we were second on the charts. On Saturday practice we only needed to run one practice. The car was that good. And even so, we were fourth overall.”
Jones was the first car to hit the track in qualifying setting the time to beat early on. Once the full field had put in their qualifying times, Jones was fifth for the start.
With a good starting spot for the race, Jones was confident that his VeriStor Ford would be one to watch. For the first 40 laps, Jones settled into 5th and was looking to ride comfortably until the time was right to make a charge.
“We were just riding and saving brakes and tires,” said Jones. “In these tight tracks there is some bumping and pushing. I got into the left rear of the 8 car a little and knocked the tow in about ¾ of an inch. Obviously the car wasn’t the same after that. But I needed to search on the track to find a place where the car liked to run. From there I just settled into my groove and let the race unfold.”
Jones finished the Kingsport race in 6th.
“I’m looking forward to heading to Anderson,” said Jones. “It’s one of my favorite tracks. I’ve had tremendous success there in Super Late Models and even all the way back to Legends Cars.”
Devin Jones Racing would like to thank its sponsor VeriStor for their support, both on and off the track. Jones also thanks Chase Pistone and crew for all their work on the car.
Next up for Devin Jones Racing will be the UARA-STARS fifth race at Anderson Motor Speedway in South Carolina on Friday, June 1st.
