Devin Jones Claims Second in UARA-STARS Toyota of Easely 150 at Anderson Motor Speedway
With 65 Employees from Sponsor VeriStor Watching On, Jones Runs Flag-to-Flag in the Top 3
Devin Jones Racing had a landmark night during the UARA-STARS Toyota of Easely 150 event at Anderson Motor Speedway on June 1.
With a bus-load of employees from Sponsor VeriStor cheering him on, the UARA “Rookie” both started and ended his night with his #35 VeriStor Ford in the second spot, marking is career-best Late Model Stock finish.
“We had a great car all weekend,” said Jones. “I knew we had the speed to turn in a great qualifying run, but what had me more concerned was how our tires would wear during long runs. Anderson is a track I have always loved to drive, but it’s hard on tires. My goal was to get the car set up well to remain strong all night.”
After practicing some longer runs before qualifying, the team was satisfied that the car had what it took to stay in the lead pack throughout the race. After the track was dried from a spell of rain, Jones laid down the second fastest qualifying time, earning him a front-row spot for the 150-lap race.
Watching on were 65 employees from Jones’ sponsor VeriStor. The company held an employee event for the race night, bussing everyone in from Atlanta to see their driver in the #35 VeriStor Ford take on the 27 car field of some of the best Late Model Stock drivers in the nation.
Jones ran in the top three all night, leading a portion of the 150-lap, relatively caution-free race. His extra attention to the car’s performance on longer runs in practice really paid off as he was able to keep his #35 VeriStor Ford at the front of the field through multiple lead changes. In the end, he would take home 2nd place and the “Rookie of the Race” award.
“It was particularly special to run so well for the crew there from VeriStor,” said Jones. “Their cheers really fueled me and I really wanted to bring home a solid finish for them. I’m looking forward to keeping the blue VeriStor car at the front for the remainder of the season.
“I would also like to thank Chase and Chase Pistone Inc., my car chief Greg, super-spotter Stan-the-man, and our pit crew Wayne and Ken for all their work on the car during the weekend,” added Jones. “This is truly a group effort, and we couldn’t have this success without everyone’s help and dedication. I’m excited to get up to Newport Speedway in two weeks.”
Next up for Devin Jones Racing will be the UARA-STARS sixth race at Newport Speedway (TN) on June 16, 2012.
