Devin Jones continued to gain valuable experience in Rounds three and four of the 2014 Mazda MX-5 Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Jones drove his #35 VeriStor Systems Mazda MX-5 to 7th and 6th place finishes in the weekend races. The San Luis Obispo, CA native was strong all weekend demonstrating the pace and consistency to run up front in only his second race weekend in the competitive series.

Jones was pleased with the improvements made in his driving and the cars handling through the weekend.

“I started the weekend wanting to get as laps in as possible at Mazda Raceway,” said Jones. “I have very little experience in the car and really wanted to work on getting into a rhythm and pushing to get the most out of the car.”

After some productive practice sessions, Jones qualified 6th for both of the weekend’s races. A hard fought battle among the top drivers in race one ended with a 7th place finish for Jones. Race two would show the VeriStor MX-5 just outside the top-5 finishing in the 6th position to cap off a successful week for Jones.

“I learned a great amount this weekend and I think we were able to find more speed in the car,” said Jones. “We continue to improve every time we hit the track, I’m having a ton of fun so far this season racing in the Mazda MX-5 Cup. I really enjoy the challenge of adapting to a new form of racing and I can’t wait for the rest of the season.”

The next round of the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series will take place on the streets of Houston on June 27-29 for the Houston Grand Prix. Jones will race in conjunction with the event’s headlining series the Verizon IndyCar Series.
