Two Top 5's Mark a Successful Weekend as Jones Adapts Well to the Fast and Daunting Circuit

Devin Jones and the Alara Racing team headed to NOLA for rounds three and four of the 2015 Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by BFGoodrich. Jones, coming off of the first two races at Sebring, was looking to gain points to better his 6th place position. He proved that speed and consistency would deliver results.

“Going into the week I was very optimistic,” said Jones. “After the first test sessions on the track I knew we were in great shape. The car was handling well right off the hauler, and the technical nature of the track suited by driving style very well.”

After being fourth quickest in the final practice Jones would qualify the VeriStor MX-5 in the eight spot in one of the closest felids in recent memory.

In race one, Jones drove through the field to as high as fourth, battling for the lead at times. At the end of the intense 45 minute bare-knuckle brawl, Jones scored his first top-5 of the season.

In race two weather played a big factor, the track was damp and a last minute decision to put on dry weather BFG tires proved to be the right one. The #35 VeriStor machine powered through the field and Jones didn’t put a wheel wrong in the treacherous conditions, finishing race two in fourth.

“This was a big weekend of racing for us,” Said Jones. “We gained great points and proved we can be fast no matter what the track conditions may be. I am really proud of the ALARA team for bringing me a great car to race at the front of the field.”

The next round of the Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup Series will take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Jones will race in conjunction with TUDOR United SportsCar Series.
