In preparation for racing in the Late Model Stock class at tracks throughout the southeast, team Devin Jones Racing and his crew chief Tom Buzze of Buzze Racing turned some laps in the No. 35 Late Model Stock at Hickory on Saturday.
“Right from the first lap, I felt very comfortable in the car,” said Jones. “The car is an older Hedgecock car. But obviously the age of the car doesn’t really matter because the car handled very well. Tom’s set up was just about spot on. It was nice to have the whole Buzze family out for the test. His dad, mom and brother all came out.
“Our plan has always been to move from the super late model into a heavier car to get the feel of it before we move into a K&N Pro Series car later this year,” added Jones.
DJR has not announced a formal late model schedule for the year. The team plans to fit in a variety of races at various tracks this season, including Hickory Motor Speedway.
“We may just show up at any track at any given weekend,” said Jones. “I’m looking forward to having a great summer of racing. I thank everyone for their continued support.”
Jones’ next race will be in the Skip Barber F2000 open wheel car for rounds 5 & 6 of the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut this weekend, May 27 through 30.
