The Devin Jones Racing team #35 had a very fast run during the PASS South race at Concord Speedway on Saturday, May 29. The 15-year-old super late model driver charged from the back of the field three times during the event, making it as high as 5th. However, after a racing incident between the two cars in front of him, Devin Jones was collected yet again only to drive once more from the back to finish in the 10th spot.

“It was a rollercoaster weekend,” said Jones. “Our Avista Sports Marketing No. 35 was fast right off the hauler in practice on Friday. The Jeff Fultz Racing team had it set up just right. We only needed a few minor adjustments to get the car right where it needed to be.”

Everyone expected Saturday to be cool like Friday, with a strong chance of rain. But when Saturday rolled around, it was hot and the track began to get greasy.

“Even though our car was great on Friday, we weren’t expecting such a hot track for qualifying,” said Jones. “The set up seemed to be much better on a cooler track, so we only pulled in a 12th in qualifying. But during the feature the track was much cooler and the car was great.”

Jones moved up quickly from 12th to 6th. But, while passing for the 5th spot, contact in the middle of turn three put both Jones and the 5th spot car out of commission and a lap down. Jones got the “lucky dog” after two more cautions to get back on the lead lap and was on a charge again for the front. The field took a competition yellow to change two tires and restarted for the final 75 laps. In just a few short laps Jones was back in 5th again knocking on the door of the 4th spot car.

“I was fast after the break and making my move for the top three,” said Jones. “But with about 20 laps to go the two cars in front of me got into each other and it took us all out. I found myself again at the rear of the field trying to get as many spots as I could. I made it up to 10th and simply ran out of time.”

“All in all it was a super weekend,” said Jones. “The Jeff Fultz Racing team did a great job getting the car so fast. I especially want to thank Steve, Doug, Ricky and Ken for the super trackside support. I also want to thank Fluidyne for the great radiator and Shark Development for the awesome horsepower.”

Following the Concord race, Jones is now 6th in points for the PASS South series. Jones races again on Friday, June 4 for the PASS South race at Ace Speedway.
