Devin Jones backed up his top five finish last week with another 4th on Saturday night during the 50-lap Bojangles Late Model division during the Honda Cars of Hickory/Catawba Science Center race at Hickory Motor Speedway. Jones, in his No. 35 Hedgcock, fought back from starting 7th to cross the checkers just one spot from the podium.

“This is our 4th race in the Late Model Stock division and we’re still getting our hands around qualifying,” said Jones’ crew chief Tom Buzze. “We’re getting better every week, but we are just not quite where we need to be. We need to find one more tenth. But we’re heading in the right direction.”

At the start of the race, Jones came out strong. He was able to move forward, but at about halfway-to-go he began to lose forward drive, when a caution came out. Restarting in 5th, that’s when things started to get racy.

“On the restart we began to battle with the 94 for 5th, that guy is just a dirty driver with no skill,” said Jones. “He moved me up the track in 3 and 4, which I don’t have a problem with – that’s racing. Then I got a run back under him, he started pinching me down… so I started pushing him up. I passed him, but going into one he tried to right-rear me to send me into the wall. Because of his lack of skill, he couldn’t even do that right.”

With five to go, there was another yellow. On the restart, Jones was on the outside and the 94 was on the inside. Jones went to the high side and made it stick, passing two cars and putting himself in 4th.

“Anyone that runs me like that is going to get what they dish out – but ten times worse,” said Jones. “If that 94 thinks I’m just going to lay down like some punk, he’s got another thing coming. NASCAR officials talked to us both after the race and told us that they’ll be watching us for the next couple weeks. We’ll see what will happen.”

Jones will be racing at Hickory Motor Speedway again next week as he works to get a podium spot.
