Rain put a stop to qualifying on Saturday during the 50-lap Late Model Stock feature at Hickory Motor Speedway. But, even though he needed to start back in the 7th spot, Devin Jones finished the night with a top 5 finish.
“During Friday practice we worked on our longer runs to dial in a more consistent car,” said Jones. “I felt we made some great progress. I was very confident going into race day on Saturday.”
With heavy rain in the forecast, the track skipped over the qualifying session on Saturday and started the field of Late Model Stock’s based on points. With only a few races in at the track this season, Jones was placed in the seventh spot to start the feature.
“At the start of the race we were able to get a good jump,” said Jones. “As the race went on, I felt my car getting stronger and stronger. We made our way up to 5th, and we were one of the fastest cars on the track at the end of the race. We just simply ran out of time, even though our speed was running the top four cars down.”
“With the recent gains we’ve made in the car,” said Jones. “I’m very confident going into next week’s twin 50-lap races. We’re putting some new updates in the car that should give us a little more next week. I’m pleased with where our program is going.”
Jones will race Hickory Motor Speedway next weekend during the track’s twin 50’s looking to continue to better his finish.
